Many travellers think that the weather at Marrakesh is continually hot and humid and everyday sees blue skies and sunshine. However, the real fact is, that the weather for Marrakech can vary quite considerably with each passing season. So what is the best time to visit Marrakesh? Also what are the hottest and coldest times of year?
Best Months to visit
Without any doubt, the best season to visit Marrakech is the Spring. This season starts during March and extends into May. Temperatures are ideal for sunbathing and topping up the tan. Sightseeing is much more enjoyable, especially in the mornings, when travelling by car or walking the streets of Marrakesh. Spring sees a vibrance of color as flowers start to really bloom and exotic fruits line the stores. The average daily maximum temperature ranges from 23 to 27 degrees Celsius. The only downside of the months of March and April are the occasional rain showers. These can occur often but are usually brief. They can be refreshing because the sun is warm and quickly dries the ground, keeping sand and dust at bay.
Mid-September, October and November are also considered a favourable time to visit Marrakesh. At this time temperatures drop considerably after the intense heat of the Summer month. September is an excellent month to visit Marrakech because it has the lowest rainfall. At this time of year, temperatures range between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. The Autumn is an excellent time to venture out into the Sahara Desert due to the cooler days and not so cool nights. Other times of year night time in the desert can be quite cool or even cold. Temperatures gradually fall from mid-September until November. Marrakech’s elevation of 460 metres (1,500 feet) above sea level results in milder nighttime temperatures. Marrakech receives only 240 millimetres (9.5 inches) of rain per year on average.
Coldest and Wettest Months
The weather in Marrakesh during Winter is still relatively mild and dry compared to European Winters. The month from December to February are usually the coolest months, with January having an average day temperature of 18c and a night temperature of 7c.
